TEENAGER Dean Walmsley was caught by a woman in her home.

Linda Bridges heard a noise when she returned to her Leek property at 12.30pm on March 24 this year.

She went to investigate and noticed her front door was open.

Prosecutor Phillip Beardwell told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday the 59-year-old victim went upstairs and saw the defendant leaving a bedroom.

Walmsley said he was looking for his grandmother who had moved to the area.

The court heard nothing was taken from Mrs Bridges's home but her underwear in a drawer had been disturbed.

Walmsley, aged 18, of Selborne Road, Leek, pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal.

David Pojur, defending, said Walmsley has no previous convictions for burglary and asked for a current community order, in which he has been making good progress, to continue.

Judge Granville Styler agreed and told Walmsley to complete 200 hours' unpaid work.
