Sneak-thefts in heat wave
Saturday, July 04, 2009, 09:20
The warning comes from the Moorlands Together Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership, which is concerned hot weather can lead to sneak-in thefts as burglars take advantage of open windows and patio doors.
Councillor Gill Burton, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council portfolio holder for communities, said: "We want people to enjoy the hot weather but to do so safely.
"Opportunist thieves are always on the look-out for easy pickings."
Inspector Steve Maskrey, commander of Staffordshire Police's Biddulph and Leek Neighbourhood Policing Unit, added: "Residents should always ensure doors and windows are secure, even if you are out in the garden, to prevent opportunist thieves from sneaking in."
