Will the council ever reveal waste costs?

ON JUNE 17, you published my letter regarding the cost of processing the council's new waste scheme, following the cost of processing not being included in a report to councillors.

The response from council officers was that they had no estimate for what the 15-year contract would cost. I contacted Councillor Clarke as portfolio holder for resources, Councillor Garner as portfolio holder for environment and Councillor Conway as chair of the scrutiny commission, and my local MP, but got no reply.

Now my request for an internal review as to what this new waste collection scheme will cost has been refused.

I also asked what the current disposal charge per tonne is for green and food waste being collected from the trial areas of Meir and Bentilee and what the current disposal charge per tonne is for green waste being collected from the rest of the city? This Freedom of Information request has also been refused. Will our councillors ever ask how much things cost?

“Perhaps the Sentinel could take this up with the Council?”
