Don't add to traffic misery

The continuing saga of the planned housing development at Mobberley Farm urges me to make some comments regarding it.

It has been suggested by the protesters who are against the plan that more houses should be built at our end of the town, near to Leek Road.

Now, I do not belong to the 'not in my own backyard brigade.'

I am not, therefore, going to criticise anyone who wants Cheadle to expand towards the north and the east because I understand that the population of Britain is growing and people have to live somewhere.

I should like to point out, however, that we have three JCB factories in our part of town which significantly increase the number of vehicles on the roads.

The traffic in the Froghall Road, Queen Street, Oakamoor Road and particularly in the Leek Road is extremely busy.

All these roads get heavily congested very regularly, particularly on certain days and times of the day.

I have seen on more than one occasion, the nose-to-tail queues of various vehicles stretching back as far as the town boundaries. It's a nightmare for the motorists.

This situation is further compounded by the Alton Towers traffic during the summer months.

If several hundred more houses are built in this area, and potentially several hundred extra cars appear on our roads, what will the effect of all that be on the traffic congestion?

So, here is my plea both to the planners and to the protesters: Think about it carefully before you act.
