CLONTER Opera Theatre in Swettenham Heath, Congleton, is giving you the chance to hear the stars of the future next Saturday night when promising singers compete in the theatre's Opera Prize competition.

Young singers from Britain and Europe will sing for £2000 and anyone can come along, listen to some inspiring music and place their vote alongside a panel of judges. The audience's vote counts towards the final result, and their favourite also wins a magnum of champagne.

Previous winners Jonathan Lemalu, Camilla Tilling and Kate Royal have all gone on to have glittering international careers and Lancashire born tenor Alfie Boe – who won in 1998 – went on to win a Tony Award for his performance in the 2003 Broadway production of La Bohème. Last year's winner Kathryn Rudge, pictured, will return to Clonter Opera in July to sing the leading role in Rossini's La Cenerentola.

During the evening there will be a 70 minute supper interval where you can either reserve an indoor table and bring your own picnic, or order from the various dining options on offer.

For further information about the event on Saturday, January 30, contact the box office on 01260 224514 or email boxoffice@clonteropera.com. Performance starts at 7pm and tickets cost £25 and £30.
