Which candidate should become the leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council?
The five candidates seeking to become the leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council have been revealed.
BNP leader Alby Walker, Labour leader Mike Barnes, City Independent Group leader Brian Ward, Conservative and Independent Alliance leader Ross Irving and Potteries Alliance leader Peter Kent-Baguley are all vying to become the city's top politician.

TOP JOB: The city council's Stoke HQ. Five men are in the running to be the authority's new leader.
The five candidates were the only council members to hand in their nomination papers before the deadline expired at 4pm today.
They now have just 10 days to convince the rest of the city's 60 councillors and outgoing elected mayor Mark Meredith to back them.
The winning candidate will need to achieve a simple majority of more than half of the available votes, although the precise format for the ballot has yet to be decided.
We will bring you more on this story.

“The thing i get really annoyed about,is when i hear either Labour,or the Tories spouting their drivel about other parties,
Mainly the BNP,as they seem to be most worried about them.
They say,If anyone other than Labour get in,no new businesses will want to come to this area,What a joke,
This city is one of the worst in the country, delivered there ,
BY LABOUR,How can it be any worse whoever gets in,
I have to say,Personally i would prefer every councillor to be an independant.I would love to see new idea's and new blood brought in to push this city foreward, and to give the hard working people of Stoke on Trent a city to be proud of.”

Lack of capatal letters, full stops and the like, and don't get me started on text speak, becouse I can not get my head around that at all...lol. It nice to hear that you don't drink anyway, thats at least two of us round hear then.”

“Sorry to tell you, II.... confused, but I'm not Mark Barns, and will you please learn to use a keyboard, or have you been at the drink again. The main reason why Alby (with a b, not a d...lol) will not become council leader is that he his yellow and will not debate his views in public, or even within council. Ross Irving, he stands a snowballs chance in hell, and will be kicked out of council chambers at the next election, whenever that may be.”

“I for one will settle for any of them except Ross Irving or Mike barnes,I believe this city has had enough of this bunch of inept Labour fools, and the Tories are just useless,
So please lets get rid of the dross that have infected, and destroyed our city for decades, and vote in some new blood, and idea's to the city.”

“Mark Barns, Peter Kent-Baguley or Brian Ward would all make first class leaders. Nicky, I'm also questioning why Mr. Meredith as even got his foot in the door looking on, never mind a vote.”

“The best two out of those are Peter Kent-Baguley and Brian Ward. However I don't imagine Peter Kent-Baguley, Alby Walker or Ross Irving will pick up enough votes, so it will be between Brian Ward and Mike Barnes. I hope therefore it will be Brian Ward.
Given that according to the council's web site, Mark Meredith's term of office ended on 24th May, how come he is allowed a vote?”
