HANLEY: The second in a series of talks about the Staffordshire Hoard takes place tomorrow.

Author Steve Pollington will speak on 'Made Worthy by Weapons: Warfare in the Time of the Hoard' at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery at 2pm. He will present an overview of the social context of warfare in the pre-Christian and post-Conversion age.

TRENTHAM: Nicholas Tilsley, aged 32, of Ashwood, Longton, has pleaded not guilty to common assault on Martin Gribble at the Britannia Stadium when Stoke City were taking on West Ham on March 2. His trial will take place on May 14. The defendant was bailed with a condition of not attending designated football matches.

BRADELEY: Gas engineer Darren Atkinson, aged 27, of Chesterwood Road, Bradeley, was fined £140 by magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Gitana Street, Hanley, on March 3. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

BENTILEE: Stephen Rigby, aged 35, of Lockington Avenue, Bentilee, is accused of stealing a watch worth £80 from H Samuels, Hanley, on March 2. Magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre granted conditional bail until March 28.

BLURTON: Fire crews were called out following an arson attack on a garage. Crews attended the blaze at a free-standing garage in Pembridge Road at around 6.40pm yesterday. Firefighters left the scene at 8pm. They believe the fire was started deliberately.
