BARTHOMLEY: Residents will be able to quiz a council leader on plans to build 1,000 houses in their village.

Cheshire East Council's Michael Jones will meet with householders in Barthomley, near Crewe, next week.

They are fighting proposals by the Duchy of Lancaster to build 1,000 houses in the community and have already handed over an 800-name petition.

A public meeting will take place at Barthomley Village Hall on Monday at 7pm.

The overall proposal includes developing around 600 acres of open countryside around Barthomley and Oakhanger to create a 'network of villages' and an 'employment destination'.

Barthomley Action Group chairman Viv Belcher said: "It should be an interesting evening.

"We want as many people as possible to make formal objections to these proposals."

STOKE: David Barker, of the Old Victoria Ground, Stoke, has been committed to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

The 52-year-old is accused of assaulting a police officer at Longton on December 13 and using racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress to Paulette Proctor also at Longton on the same date. The defendant, who elected trial at crown court, will appear there on March 11 for a plea and case management hearing.

FENTON: Lisa Copeland, aged 41, has pleaded guilty to intimidation at Fenton on November 5.

She will be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after a report is prepared on her by a probation officer.

Copeland, of Alfred Street, Fenton, was bailed but told that should not be taken as an indication of sentence.

BLYTHE BRIDGE: The Crown Prosecution Service at North Staffordshire Justice Centre has withdrawn a charge of making off without payment for a taxi fare from Derby to Blythe Bridge on November 25 against 59-year-old Nicholas Warburton, of Blythe Close, Blythe Bridge.

The court heard the defendant had now paid the £50 back to the taxi driver.
