STONE: The UK Independence Party has joined protests over the proposed redevelopment of a park.

They are backing the thousands of residents campaigning to preserve Stone's Westbridge Park.

Possible plans for the park include a supermarket, leisure centre and swimming pool.

But residents are fighting plans for any housing or supermarket development.

Now members of UKIP's Stone branch have described any redevelopment as 'deeply damaging'.

Branch chairman Andrew Illsley said: "We will campaign vigorously to save Westbridge Park.

"Westbridge Park is loved by the community. It should be safeguarded from the threat of diggers.

"The green belt, like Westbridge Park, should remain green and not be carpeted with concrete and asphalt."

NORTHWOOD: Schoolchildren will be helping to mark the opening of a new look shop.

The Co-operative Food store, in Keelings Road, Northwood,

has been transformed thanks to a £310,000 refurbishment.

Pupils at Northwood Broom Community School will help to open the shop on Thursday.

The school will also receive a donation of £200 towards its environmental projects.

The new store will have an extended bakery and more self-scan checkouts.

Store manager Mary Tooth said: "We are all really looking forward to welcoming customers to our new store in Northwood."

ETRURIA: An arts and crafts exhibition is being staged at Etruria Industrial Museum this weekend.

It will feature Christmas gifts produced by ceramic artist Lynda Fox, handmade cushion maker Stephanie Waddie and sculptured steel blacksmith Charis Jones.

The artists will be present, with Charis demonstrating her art in the forge.

Etruria Artists has various items from members on display, including Neil Twemlow's 'Sagger' mugs which were fired in the kiln.

The fair is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 4pm

There is a free car park at Kilndown Close, off Etruria Vale Road, Etruria.
