HARTSHILL: Cleaner Kelly Shaw, who was jailed after she fleeced a pensioner out of £52,000, has been ordered to repay a nominal £1 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Shaw, a 36-year-old mother-of-four, of Stamer Street, Hartshill, told an elderly client, in her 80s, a series of lying sob stories in order to obtain her money.

The defendant pleaded guilty to fraud and was jailed for 28 months in August.

She yesterday appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for a Proceeds of Crime hearing.

Judge Paul Glenn ruled that Shaw benefited from her offending by £52,397. But because Shaw has no assets he made a confiscation order for £1. She will serve an extra seven days in prison if payment is not made in 28 days.

SHELTON: Teenager Thomas Longshaw, who is charged with robbery, will enter his plea at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on January 18.

The 18-year-old, of Penstock Drive, Shelton, is accused of robbing a mobile phone from a woman in Newcastle on October 18.

The defendant was granted bail.

STOKE: Neil Howell, aged 42, admitted assaulting his wife Julie Howell on November 8.

The defendant, who is now living at The Salvation Army Hostel in Vale Street, Stoke, will be sentenced at North Staffordshire Justice Centre, Newcastle, on December 20.

The defendant was granted bail.

BARLASTON: Jamie Davies, aged 31, of The Green, Barlaston, who denies assaulting Kelly Bowkett occasioning her actual bodily harm on October 11, will enter his plea at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on December 17. He was granted bail.

SANDFORD HILL: Cy Podmore, aged 37, of St Mary's Road, Sandford Hill, denied robbing Kerry Martin of money on August 31.

The defendant's trial will be held at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in the week beginning January 28.

Podmore was remanded in custody.

BLYTHE BRIDGE: Beverley Mander, aged 37, of Jasmine Close, Blythe Bridge, denied dangerous driving at Cheadle on July 9.

She will next appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre, Newcastle, on January 17 and was bailed.
