STOKE: A taxi firm has secured its future in a town centre for the rest of the year.

Lucky Seven private taxi hire operates from Hill Street, Stoke, using a portable building as an office and waiting room.

It had asked for permission to remain at the base for a further five years.

But Stoke-on-Trent City Council has now said it can continue until the start of December this year so the impact on nearby residents can be monitored.

In documents submitted with the plans, the owner says only three or four cars will be based at the business at any one time.

The firm operates round-the-clock, seven days a week including bank holidays.

Three people are employed there.

BLURTON: David Walton, aged 22, of Blurton Road, Blurton, has pleaded guilty to offences of aggravated vehicle taking, disqualified driving and driving with no insurance at Blurton on December 10.

The defendant had already admitted aggravated vehicle taking, disqualified driving and driving with no insurance at Heron Cross on Christmas Day.

He further admitted breaching his bail conditions.

North Staffordshire Magistrates adjourned sentence for reports until January 26.

Walton was conditionally bailed.
