STOKE: Two men charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon have been committed to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Mohammed Jameel Khaliq, aged 34, of Sturgess Street, Stoke, and Mohammed Nasir Khaliq, aged 27, also of Sturgess Street, Stoke, are accused of committing the offences at Shelton on July 29.

Mohammed Jameel Khaliq is also accused of assaulting Kasam Ahmed occasioning him actual bodily harm on July 27. Both defendants will appear at crown court for a plea and directions hearing on October 26. A third man, Mohammed Khalil Khaliq, aged 31, of Sturgess Street, Stoke, is charged with affray, assault and possession of an offensive weapon. He will be committed to the crown court on November 12. All three defendants were granted bail.

M6: The northbound carriageway of the M6 between junction 14 and junction 15 will be closed overnight from 9.30pm to 5.30am tomorrow and Thursday for sign and signal repairs.

KIDSGROVE: Mark Clayton, aged 43, of Gloucester Road, Kidsgrove, will stand trial after pleading not guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis on September 17 and resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty on the same date. North Staffordshire magistrates granted Clayton unconditional bail.

HANLEY: Staffordshire University student Mohammed Adees, aged 23, of The Parkway, Hanley, will be committed to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on October 10 accused of affray. North Staffordshire magistrates granted conditional bail.

NORMACOT: Police and councillors are due to attend a residents' association meeting at the Queensbury Centre, in Queensbury Road, on Tuesday, October 9.

The meeting, which starts at 6.30pm, is also open to Lightwood residents.
