A500: Self-employed hairdresser Michael Jervis was more than twice over the drink-drive limit when he collided with a barrier on the A500 in the early hours of the morning, North Staffordshire magistrates heard.

The defendant, aged 20, of Mere Road, Weston, Crewe, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He gave a reading of 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath against a legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Jervis was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £120 with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

ETRURIA: Christopher Kirnon stole two perfume testers from Boots, Etruria, in a bid to sell them to raise funds to go to see his sister who was seriously ill in a Birmingham hospital, a court heard.

The defendant, aged 37, of Denbigh Street, Hanley, pleaded guilty at North Staffordshire Magistrates Court to theft of the testers on August 24.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge with £85 costs and a £25 victim surcharge.

NEWCASTLE: Kerry Roberts, aged 32, of Cheddar Drive, Newcastle, has pleaded guilty to damaging a motor vehicle on August 21 and assaulting a police officer on the same date.

North Staffordshire magistrates adjourned sentence for reports until October 10.

The defendant was granted conditional bail.

LEEK: Nathan Campbell, aged 23, of Furmston Place, Leek, is charged with two offences of theft on August 24 until September 14.

North Staffordshire magistrates adjourned the case due to the defendant's ill health.

LEEK: A warrant without bail was issued by North Staffordshire magistrates for 37-year-old Gary Swietek, of Selborne Road, Leek, after he failed to turn up at court to face a charge of refusing a provide a sample for a class A drug test on August 24.
