STOKE: Professor James Clark, of York University, will examine the research projects that are turning waste products, such as food, into valuable and useful resources in his lecture, Green Chemistry and Sustainability: from waste to wealth.

Professor Clark was awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry Environment Prize in 2011 for his ground-breaking work in the field of green chemistry. His lecture will appeal to anyone with an interest in how to combat the twin problems of resource shortages and waste management by using science.

It takes place at Staffordshire University's Science Centre in Leek Road on Thursday at 2pm. Telephone 01782 294614.

MEIR: Youngsters are invited to Spring into Action at Meir Library. Staff will tell springtime stories followed by the chance to make a card.
