HANLEY: A teenager lost a tooth and was left with a further two hanging out after an assault in Hanley.

Student Adam Jones was 18 when he was assaulted by 19-year-old Nathan Sargeant on April 24 last year. The defendant, of Ford Green Road, Ford Green, has been committed to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for sentence after he was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a trial at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court. The court heard the victim had been due to play in national volleyball finals before the attack but did not participate because of his injuries.

TRENTHAM LAKES: Stoke City fans attending tomorrow's home game against Tottenham Hotspur have been advised to get to the Britannia Stadium early.

Police are encouraging fans to get to the ground in good time for kick-off. Officers have warned that the Midlands Grand National is also taking place tomorrow at Uttoxeter Racecourse and say traffic is set to be very heavy in the east of the county.

Match commander Superintendent Adrian Bloor said: "At recent matches a number of fans have arrived very close to kick-off for the game, which has caused extended traffic delays."

HANLEY: North Staffordshire magistrates fixed a trial for Carlton Thaw for April 13.

The 49-year-old, of Hope Street, Hanley, is accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent on January 23 at Hanley. He was given bail.
