ETRURIA: The case of a 29-year-old man alleged to have assaulted his father is set to go to the crown court.
Wayne Lewis, of Ladysmith Road, Etruria, appeared before North Staffordshire magistrates accused of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Kenneth Lewis on August 23 at Etruria.
The defendant is further charged with affray. Magistrates granted him conditional bail to live at Boughey Road, Stoke, and committal to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court will take place on October 5.
BUCKNALL: Plans to build a detached house in the garden of another home in Bucknall will be discussed today.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been asked for full permission to build a two-storey house in Eaves Lane. But three objections have been received from neighbours and the matter has also been referred to a ward councillor and Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Tristram Hunt. Officers have recommended the Development Management Committee conditionally approves the scheme.
LEEK: A Kashmiri national who assaulted the wife he met and married in Goa has been ordered to pay her £100 compensation. Nisar Mir assaulted Laura-Jo Mir at their home in Newcastle Road, Leek, on August 22 this year.
The 30-year-old, yesterday pleaded guilty to common assault on Mrs Mir and was fined £230 with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Rob Holt, defending, told the court that the marriage was apparently now over.
LEEK: Adam Smith, aged 23, of Broad Street, Leek, was handed a 12-month community order with supervision and a three-month curfew order from 8pm to 7am after admitting possessing a quantity of heroin in Leek in April this year.
North Staffordshire magistrates also ordered him to pay costs of £85 with a £15 victim surcharge.
BLYTHE BRIDGE: David Lovatt, aged 20, of Bridgwood Road, Blythe Bridge, has pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Nathan Smith on October 17 last year. Judge Paul Glenn, sitting at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report and extended Lovatt's bail but told him all options remain open.
