Call to boycott animal circus
A CHARITY is calling on families to boycott a circus featuring animals.
Captive Animals' Protection Society (CAPS) is urging residents in Congleton not to attend Peter Jolly's Circus when it arrives in Congleton tomorrow.
The organisation says it is not fair to use horses, llamas, dogs and other animals for entertainment purposes.
Liz Tyson, director of CAPS said: "Visitor numbers to circuses with wild animals have halved in the last five years and there is a huge amount of support for the new proposals for a ban.
BlueSky CVs are offering 20% discount to all Thisisstaffordshire/Sentinel readers until the end of May.

"But the Government needs to act quickly and we ask that people stay away from those shows that continue to use animals. We hope that we will soon see a ban on this practise but we remain concerned for all animals in circuses, whether domestic or wild."
The circus will be at Congleton from tomorrow until Sunday.

“I wonder how many of the people saying 'don't go the circus' have ever actually been into any circus stables and seen for themselves the love, care and dedication to their animals circus animal trainers and handlers actually have. The answer is probably none of them! Because if they did they know full well they would have no stop complaining about alleged cruelty and have to find something else to bang on about. Zoo's will be next, then horse racing, dog racing and finally your pet cat or dog and woe betide anyone that has a goldfish in a bowl!!!
The Great British public are not stupid, if they felt circuses with animals were an outdated form of entertainment they simply would not attend those circuses and the shows would close. If the public witnessed acts of abuse, neglect or downright cruelty to animals during performances, surely most right minded people would act upon it and inform the correct authorities. I know I would!
Ask C.A.P.S spokesperson Liz Tyson how much money their organisation made from gullible members of the public last year alone with their anti circus campaigns and then ask, how many circus animal trainers or animal staff have they ever taken to court since the groups inception in 1957, even better ask them how many pitiful, abandoned, neglected circus animals they have had to rescue, rehome and save from a pitiful life in the circus!
That one is quite simple to answer. NONE!!!!
Rather than believe what you read in the papers, go down to the circus during the day and ask to have a look around at the animals and their living quarters, see for yourself and make your own mind up.”

“I always rather enjoyed watching the glamorous Miss Thackaway perform her multitude of acrobatic tricks on her dapper white horses, the Filthistan Trio and their native seesaw act, and the performing seals, whenever Wugwell's Circus came to town. All gone now of course, thanks to interfering welfare activists and spoilsports.”

“Sirs , As vice Chair of APTCA (Association for the Promotion of the Traditional Circus Arts) I have to take issue with a couple of points in the CAPS statement, the 7 animal circuses in the UK had over 750,000 customers last year, putting the lie to "Numbers have halved over the last 5 years" in fact two new circuses with animal content have opened in the same period .
All Circuses with animals are subject to strict controls and are inspected by Vets and local authorities at each venue during the season with any misdemeanours being reported and their license to perform revoked , this has not happened within living memory.
the animal husbandry of all these shows exceed all present regulations and will continue to do so with the introduction of new DEFRA reg;s later on this year.
Recently on a national TV Talent show 4.200,000 people (39% of those taking part and 7% of the UK population) voted for "Pudsey " a performing dog as the winner, does this reflect the "huge support for a ban " that is claimed by CAPS . The new DEFRA regulations will hopefully stop the lies and misleading information given to the public by the AR groups .”

“Just another fund raising stunt by these misguided people. I know they have been invited by many circuses to go and see for themselves. They always refuse to visit. Are they afraid they will find everything is good?
I am sure the people of Staffs will have the good sense to go and look for themselves and make their own judgement and not be brainwashed by these so called do-gooders.”

“The same society that wants to see the end of: zoo's, horse shows, dogs shows, agricultural shows, and now I see even the use of animals in the Olympic opening ceremony. These animal rights groups will stop at nothing check out there true agenda's you might be surprised they don't even agree with your keeping pets, don't believe me check out some of the animal rights groups, PETA, CAPS, ADI etc etc.
As for boycotting a traditional family circus, go along see for yourself the condition of the animals, then judge for yourself instead of listening to propaganda and lies. I'm sure you will be buying tickets and enjoying a great family show.”
