THOUSANDS of Christians will be rocking around Alton Towers tomorrow night at a gospel concert.

Members of Milton Keynes Christian Centre have organised the annual event, which is expected to attract up to 6,000 people.

Concert-goers can spend the day at the theme park before staying for the concert, which starts at 5pm.

Major Christian artists headlining tomorrow’s Saturday’s event include Greenjade, RPM, Matt Redman, Rebecca St James and Tait, formerly DC Talk.

This year will also see record-breaking weight-lifters Tough Talk share their views on life and faith. Other attractions include magicians, football freestylers and disc jockeys.

One of the organisers is senior pastor Mark Sherratt, who is originally from Leek, and a former pupil at Leek High School.

Father-of-two Mr Sherratt, aged 43, said: “I am Leek born and bred, and my parents still live in the town. Alton Towers is a great arena for a concert, I really enjoy coming back here each year.

“We are expecting at least 6,000 people from across the country, and we are also expecting some people from Europe.

“It is a great day out followed by a great concert with some top-class acts. The concert hosts the best gospel music in the world, and is truly awesome.

“We seek to encourage all those who attend that there is a God who loves them and is there for them.

“We want to present God in a trendy way, and show that Christianity is relevant – it is our way of getting the message out to young people.

“We want to get the young people involved, and show them that they can all make a difference in the world.”

He added: “It has become one of the ‘must do’ experiences of the year, which combines some of the contemporary Christian music artists with rip-roaring theme park rides.”
