Zak heading back to school after recovery
A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy who suffered serious head injuries when he was knocked off his bike is set to return to school in the New Year.
Zak Tudor, from Cheadle, had to be taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital after being involved in a collision with a car last month.
He hit the vehicle's windscreen and sustained multiple injuries.
Among them were bleeding and fluid on the brain, a tear to his liver, a chipped bone in his knee and a badly swollen ankle.
The incident happened when Zak was crossing the road near B+M, close to Tape Street car park.
Zak, who attends Bishop Rawle Primary School, had to be put on a ventilator as he could not breathe by himself.
But the youngster has made a remarkable recovery and the bruises and cuts he sustained are all but gone.
The plaster cast on his leg will be taken off later this month and he will have an operation on the back of his knee, where he tore a ligament.
Zak said: "I only remember what happened before the accident and when I was just about to go out on my bike.
"I can't remember what happened when the car hit me.
"I'm looking forward to going back to school next year and seeing all of my friends again."
Zak's parents say the the family is now looking forward to Christmas.
Michaela and Graham Tudor own Toy Town in Cheadle.
Michaela said: "We are just so grateful we will be celebrating Christmas with Zak and it could have been so much worse.
"He has made an amazing recovery and really getting back to normal now.
"He has healed very well, the bruises have faded and he only has a few cuts left.
"He's having the plaster cast off after Christmas and has got to go into hospital for an operation on his knee, but everything else is fine.
"He's really looking forward to going back to school, too.
"He doesn't like being inside and he much prefers it when he is outside.
"He is really popular at his school and he has missed being around his friends every day.
"He was invited into the school for Christmas dinner last week, which he really enjoyed.
"All his friends were there and it did him good to be around them again.
"We'll be spending Christmas at home with the family and we are all looking forward to it now.
"The last few weeks have been traumatic at times and we are so grateful nothing worse happened."
