Youngsters net Lotto cash for playing area
A SPORTS facility will be unveiled in May after youngsters won lottery funding.
The new multi-purpose games area in Church Road Playing Fields at Biddulph will have an asphalt surface with pitch markings for five-a-side football, basketball and netball.
The facility is being funded by £90,000 secured by Biddulph youngsters from the Big Lottery and Staffordshire County Council's Youth Capital Fund. The young people were helped with their bid by Staffordshire Youth Service.
Jake Swift, one of the young people involved in the project, said he and his friends had to put a lot of work into planning the facility, which he was sure would be well used.
Antony Capostagno, senior youth worker for Staffordshire County Council, said: "This is a great example of young people having a say in what they want in their community and I am proud of the work they have done."
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has applied for planning permission to light the court with six floodlighting columns, each eight metres high.
The proposal is scheduled to go before the planning committee on Thursday, March 18.
