FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a blaze at a cement factory.

One crew from Leek and another from Ipstones attended the scene at Lafarge's Cauldon Works site in Yelsway Lane, Waterhouses at around 5.30am yesterday.

The fire started when a pile of rubberised chippings caught alight.

Factory employees were evacuated from the premises prior to the arrival of fire officers.
