Women wrestle to the top
Last Woman Standing BBC3, 9pm
CONCERNS have been expressed about how well Britain's women are going to do at the London Olympics.
-

GIRLS: Lesley, Alex, Anna, Natalie and Joni.
Unless binge-drinking is unexpectedly added to the list of sports, then they're going to be well down the medal table.
Tonight, however, five of our female athletes set out on a mission to show they can be world-beaters. They've accepted the challenge of a lifetime to travel across the globe to meet, live and compete with tribeswomen in their own indigenous sports to see who will be the Last Woman Standing.
The series starts tonight when Paula Radcliffe takes on the women of Fleetwood at cribbage.
Actually Paula's not included. Taking up the challenge are European boxing champion Lesley, water sports junkie Anna, fitness guru Alex, rugby player Joni and endurance expert Natalie.
In the first episode, they travel to western Brazil to compete in Huka Huka Wrestling. For one week only the women dress like men, dance like men and fight like men and on the final day there is a wrestling competition.
It's a tough contest, immersed in strong ritual and custom, and each athlete will first have to prove themselves worthy of taking on the village champions.
In a test of courage, the women will need to overcome the most brutal of tribal rituals. The locals believe that to gain strength for fighting they have to bleed, which is where the comb of razor-sharp piranha teeth comes in. Where was that on Celebrity Big Brother?
