"The cigarette set fire to the bed but luckily the woman and her daughter were able to get out before the fire progressed.

"They were both extremely lucky to escape the fire without injury or more serious harm.

“We’d urge smokers not to smoke in bed as it is incredibly dangerous and can quite easily start a fire.”

Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and used one hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

They left the scene at 11.45pm.

“The people who live in the flat above me smoke....apart from the vile stench I worry about the risk of fire...perhaps another criteria to look at when offering flats to tenants..smoking or non-smoking....”

“Yes, that's quite true. One that is not so apparent to the wisher. There are levels of 'contemplative suicide'... some being subconscious.... bordering on being 'tired of life'. No pun meant.”

“How many years have they being telling smokers about smoking in bed, it must be some kind of death wish to do that.”
