Woman guilty of bogus fund-raising
A BOGUS fund-raiser went round pubs and clubs in the area with fake collecting tins supposedly raising money for Staffordshire's Air Ambulance.
For nearly a decade Sandra Griffiths fleeced unsuspecting donors.
Her case was remanded for reports by a judge at Stafford Crown Court yesterday.
Prosecutor Nick Burn said they had no evidence to be able to tot up exactly how much she had collected.
Sandra Griffiths, aged 51, of Thorpe Avenue, Burntwood, pleaded guilty to going equipped to cheat between July 1998 and January last year. The charge stated she had a false identification card and collecting tins.
She also admitted fraud between January 15 and March 28 last year, by making representations that she was collecting money on behalf of the Air Ambulance.
Her husband, George Griffiths, aged 56, of the same address was found not guilty of going equipped to cheat and possessing false articles.
Mr Burn told the judge: "As far as Mr Griffiths is concerned, it has always been the case that she has been the principal focus of the prosecution and was entirely active in entering pubs and clubs and collecting money.
"The Crown take the view that Sandra Griffiths, having pleaded guilty, satisfies the public concern."
Judge Eades remanded Sandra Griffiths on bail for reports, but warned that he was giving no indication as to what sentence he might pass on her.
