A TEENAGER died when the car he was driving collided with a tree.

Danny Edwards, aged 18, of Stone Road, Uttoxeter, was travelling on the A518 Stafford Road, leaving Uttoxeter at about 7.25pm on Monday when the accident happened.

He was driving a grey Mazda saloon and was the only person in the car.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "When crews arrived they found a car that had suffered very considerable damage.

"Unfortunately, it became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"A young woman driving a second car, who came across the crash, was checked over by ambulance staff but was uninjured."

The road was closed for five hours. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Richard Bolter at Uttoxeter Police Station on 0300 123 4455.
