ASHLEIGH Williams produced a cracker of a ride to cross the line as fastest lady in the Manchester and District 10-mile Christmas time trial.

Williams helped Lyme Racing Club (Swinnerton Cycles) end the season with a flourish over the Lower Peover course in cold and windy conditions.

She came home in 34 minutes and 36 seconds, while her Lyme club-mates also picked up awards for the fastest veteran, the fastest team and the second fastest juvenile.

Barrie Whittaker took the veteran prize, stopping the clock in 26mins 50secs, while Joe Swinnerton (29.38) was second in the juvenile race.

Will Corden, Bernard Swinnerton and Whittaker were the fastest team, the first time Lyme have won that prize.

Corden (25.25) was also the quickest Lyme rider on the day, while Bernard Swinnerton (26.49) and Craig Ashton (29.29) also showed top form.

Dave Williams (30.12), David Steele (32.06), Paul Jennings (32.35) and Dave Cartlidge (32.43) completed a catalogue of good rides for the club.

Father and son Bernard and Joe Swinnerton had riden in the Mow Cop hill climb before, but had never taken part in a time trial, while 65-year-old Jennings was competing in his first race of any kind.
