She will be accompanied by Roy's nephew, Phil Sproson, another club stalwart, and a host of football VIPs.

They will include the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Terry Crowe, Vale's local MP, Joan Walley, and the chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association, Gordon Taylor.

Also present will be representatives from both the Football Association and Football League, plus Norman Smurthwaite, who hopes to take control of the club with Paul Wildes.

"And I'm sure Roy's family and friends will get a lot of pleasure out of what is a fitting tribute to a club legend."
