It is a complex process when reporting suspicions of white collar crime.  As in where do you get your evidence if the institution complained about is insulating themselves under the Data Protection Act, Legal Privileges or even Court of Protection?

Furthermore, academics identify a number of characteristics that define white collar crime.  As in perpetrators of it have inside information and organisational routines/financial knowledge in which to conceal their offences.

It was almost by chance that News Corporation/The Metropolitan Police were finally exposed.  Years had elapsed before any action was taken even though individuals, MPs and media groups were constantly voicing their misgivings.

So what should you do if you suspect white collar crime?  Will anybody take you seriously?

Staffordshire Police maintain that they take white collar crime very seriously indeed.

Nevertheless, if you report irregularities or questionable incidents that have arisen within an institution to Staffordshire Police, you could be advised that you must go to a solicitor foremost as the police cannot investigate 'a possible crime'.   They mitigate that one must have something akin to 'paper evidence' to prove what you are saying is true.

Well, if the documents within the institutions being reported are protected by legalities, how can the whistle blower acquire such evidence?

The police should treat your suspicions the same as if you suspect someone is committing a burglary, as in investigate.  A crime is a crime.

One supposes that we could always follow further advice taken from Hanley Police Station when faced with this situation.

Make an appointment with the CAB.

“Why do you not explain exactly as to whom you spoke with at Hanley Police Station was it the first person who answered the phone or did you ask to speak with a person qualified to answer your question. Anything to make Staffordshire Police look poor.”
