Then & Now: Waterloo Road, Burslem
MOCK castle archways were erected across Waterloo Road and Nile Street during the 1908 Agricultural Show in Burslem. Agricultural scenes are depicted on the decorative panels and street trimmings are supported by tram poles.
The 18th century George Hotel can be seen on the left side, which was replaced in 1928/29 with the present building.
In today's picture, the scene is somewhat different as the new hotel dominates the photo.
Waterloo Road is a busy place for traffic travelling through the market town, while Burslem itself has become an area full of local shops and amenities, such as the Cherry Tree Letting Agency, which can be seen on the right-hand side.
