MAKING SENSE: Youngsters had a chance to stimulate their senses during a walk in the woods.

Our Lady and St Benedict Catholic Primary School, in Abbey Hulton, organised a "sense walk" through the school's woodland for reception and year three and four pupils.

The children walked barefoot through mud, listened out for the noises in the wood, enjoyed the warmth of a fire and drank a cup of hot chocolate during the exercise.

Reception teacher Kate Giliker said: "The topic this term has been senses.

"We were looking to take the children to Trentham Gardens, but we just couldn't afford the coach fare. So we decided to make our own sense walk in our woodland here, and it was fantastic.

"The children loved it."
