Elections 2011: 215 city households affected by council boundary error
MORE than 215 households across Stoke-on-Trent will not be able to vote for the councillor who will represent them after a series of boundary blunders.
Details of further errors have emerged after The Sentinel revealed on Saturday, above, that about 100 households in London Road will be voting for a Springfields and Trent Vale councillor, despite being in Boothen and Oakhill ward.

Voters have spotted several additional discrepancies in the electoral register, heaping confusion on candidates who do not know where to canvass and stripping residents of the opportunity to pick a politician to represent where they live.
A cluster of properties in Leek Road are registered to vote for two councillors in Birches Head and Central Forest Park, but residents will actually be represented by two councillors elected in Abbey Hulton and Townsend.
Several householders in High Lane have been placed in the Burslem Park ward but should be registered in Little Chell and Stanfield.
And some properties in Finstock Avenue have mistakenly been registered in Blurton West and Newstead but should be covered by Blurton East.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council said the errors are the result of the short time scale between the Boundary Committee finalising the 37 new wards in January and the electoral register on which the election must be based being finalised in March.
The council is reminding all affected residents they can still vote, but mistakes cannot be rectified until after the election.
Roy Naylor, who is stepping down as non-aligned councillor for Blurton, said the mistakes should have been spotted sooner.
Tony Sweetsur, aged 79, of High Lane, said: "I am not normally the sort of person to make a fuss about these things, but when your civil rights are being infringed I feel I am entitled to be.
"I want to take part in the Alternative Vote referendum, but as for the local vote I don't think I will bother."
Vincent Morley, aged 67, is one of the affected residents in Leek Road.
He said: "We'll be voting for someone who represents a different area.
"I think it's disgraceful, but we are told they can't do anything now until after the election. What is the point?"
Residents in Grantham Place, which backs on to the homes in Leek Road, have been correctly placed in the Abbey Hulton and Townsend ward.
Fears have been raised by some candidates that discrepancies could leave the council vulnerable to costly post-election challenges if there are narrow margins.
City council returning officer Paul Hackney said he did not believe there is a basis for a legal challenge, although losing candidates may try to launch one.
He added: "Nobody is losing out on the vote. We can't try to hide the fact there has been some anomalies, but against the backdrop of the short time scale we've done a pretty good job. We acknowledge the anomalies, but it amounts to three or four streets out of 6,500. On that scale it is quite low."

“I would just think that the homes will be moved to the area they voted in after the election. To vote in one area but to be represented by the councillor of another would be non-democratic, but its soon sorted out.”

“No apologies from the returning officer then?
I would have thought there WAS a basis for a legal challenge personally - and if there isn't, there should be!”

“Lets hope these losing candidates who try and launch a legal objection, are previous representatives.
