Villagers helping out despite the recession
VILLAGERS in Waterhouses raised £1,533 for victims of the Haiti earthquake last Friday.
The event was organised by members of Waterhouses Methodist Church and attracted a large crowd.
Teas, coffee, lunches including home made soup, along with bring and buy and cake stalls were available.
A map of Haiti was covered in coins by visitors which helped to boost funds.
Organiser Marion Hall said: "People are so generous even when we are in a time of recession.
"We are also very grateful to Morrisons of Leek and Edwin Wain of the village shop for their contributions."
