PLANS for the future use of a former primary school site are to be discussed at a meeting tonight.

St Giles' and St George's Primary School, in Newcastle, has been empty since the school closed in 2005.

The site is off Barracks Road, lies next to the town's Queen's Gardens and is in the Newcastle Town Centre Conservation Area.

Now a group of councillors are to discuss future uses for the site.

Issues include why the site is being retained, how much any refurbishment would cost and what the borough council is doing to offload it.

The site will be discussed at the council's overview and scrutiny co-ordinating committee meeting at 7pm tonight.
