Maddison, who is a pupil at St Margaret Ward School, in Chell, said: "I have always been into singing and dancing so my mum encouraged me to enter the competition when she found out about it. I was gobsmacked when I found out I got through and then I felt really happy.

"I was quite nervous at first because it's one of the biggest competitions I've entered.

"I always feel nervous when I'm performing but it does get easier the more I do it.

"It also helps that I have my dad with me and I always enjoy performing with him."

Jason, aged 40, said: "I was ecstatic when I found out.

"I taught myself to play the guitar and I've been playing it for 15 years now.

"A lot of people do find our act quite unusual and it's definitely something different.

"Maddison and I normally choose pop songs to perform to and we both work together to choose the songs.

"For our audition, we performed a song by Adele, which we're going to do for the next stage.

"We've got a great relationship and I think that comes through when we perform together.

"We're a proper team and we're really excited about our next performance in the regional finals."

Mum Angela Smith, aged 44, said: "Maddison is always singing and performing at home.

"She has been having singing lessons since she was five-years-old and sung in a production of A Christmas Carol, at the New Vic Theatre, over the festive period.

"She has entered a few competitions and even made it through to the last 50 of Stoke's Got Talent last year.

"I knew she had done well at the audition and it's really nice seeing her and her father perform together. We're all really proud of Maddison."
