Victoria Ground is biggest waste

YOU recently published a letter from John Farmer, a resident of Oakhill, in respect of the wasted sites city-wide.

I endorse his comments and probably the largest site (or sight) is the wasteland that was once the famous Stoke City football ground, which is now a disgrace to the whole area.

I feel for the good people of Stoke who have to see this area daily, and it is a bad example for young children to view.

Some years ago I was invited to see official plans for semi-detached houses to be built there (four or six rows, I recall) and a boulevard with a proper footpath and a row of trees beside the River Trent.

I appreciate we are in the middle of a recession, but surely some information for the general public would be appreciated. But now the council and the occupants of the 'white elephant' Civic Centre are preparing to vacate Stoke (for that already overcrowded Hanley), leaving the rate-payers to foot the bill for the councillors' profligacy.
