Victim tells of bogus taxi robbery ordeal
POLICE are continuing inquiries after a passenger was robbed and dumped at the roadside by a man posing as a taxi driver and his accomplice.
The incident happened when the 20-year-old victim flagged down a taxi from a night out in Hanley back home to Alsager a week ago.
A man told him that he was going the same way and asked the victim if he wanted to share a lift.
But not long into the journey, the driver and the accomplice assaulted him, stealing his wallet, watch, mobile and keys.
Today the victim, who asked not to be named, said: "I thought he was just offering to share a taxi but it was obviously a set up.
"It was a horrible experience. It won't stop me going out, but I will never get a taxi alone again."
The victim was thrown out of the cab and spent several hours trying to find out where he was before flagging down a passing motorist around 5.45am.
The taxi driver was described as an Asian male, aged 20 to 30.
His passenger was white and aged 18 to 20 with short, dark hair.
