Viable Tory majority would be worst result
Cynicism about Parliament and MPs in particular is in danger of damaging the body politic.
Yes, the expenses scandal raised big issues.

Serious shortcomings in the system needed to be addressed and MPs had responsibilities, generally and individually, for weaknesses.
That's being dealt with and we need to move on.
Meanwhile, a good case can be made for hard working MPs doing a good job in particular spheres.
Charlotte Atkins, pictured, initiated a 90-minute debate to assist thalidomide survivors in the House of Commons last November.
This enabled MPs from across the political spectrum to make the case for support, leading to the announcement this month of a £20 million scheme to meet the needs of thalidomide victims.
Charlotte was congratulated by the health minister and a number of MPs after this success, including Conservative Dr Julien Lewis.
That's not necessarily the best reason for voting Charlotte Atkins in the coming General Election.
The crisis we face is so huge and deep. With party-political loyalties and support evaporating, options need to be debated.
The worst-case scenario election result will be a Conservative victory with a viable majority.
This is because the Tories fervour for 'savage cuts' in public spending will make the recession worse.
A better scenario will be a hung Parliament, with Labour having most MPs.
That will force the pace on electoral reform, focusing the minds of everybody on the way ahead and helping the Lib-Dems, Greens and other minority parties.
