POLICE are appealing for witnesses after village road signs were vandalised.

The Kingsley Holt sign, Lockwood Road and the High Shutt sign at Kingsley have been damaged over the past week.

Police believe the damage may have been done deliberately and tyre tracks suggest that a tractor unit may have been involved.

Cheadle mayor Julie Bull has called on the public to name and shame the vandals.

She said: "I have seen the damage and I think the signs have been deliberately vandalised. One of them looks as though it has been driven through.

"If anyone has got any information I will pass it on for them, if they do not want to go to the police themselves."

Kingsley councillor Ivor Lucas said: "One of the signs has been smashed in half and another has been bent right over. It is a bit of a mystery."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sergeant Nick Morris at Cheadle Police Station on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
