VIDEO: £5m Trent Vale M Club gym up and running
OLYMPIAN Steve Cram has cut the ribbon on a £5 million health and fitness club.
A total of 40 jobs have been created with the launch of M Club Spa and Fitness in Trent Vale.

WORKING OUT: Steve Cram with Mo Chaudry.
It is the second gym to be opened by businessman Mo Chaudry and at 65,000 sq ft, it is thought to be the largest private fitness club in Staffordshire.
Mr Chaudry announced in October he had bought the former Total Fitness building, on the A34, after it shut suddenly last year, leaving members with the option of travelling to a sister club in Crewe, or canceling their membership.

Last night, he gave legendary middle distance runner Steve a tour of the facility which offers a six-lane pool, hydrotherapy pool, personalised 'Smart Card' exercise programmes, beauty treatments, a restaurant and bar, creche and squash courts.
TV presenter and commentator Steve said: "I'm a big believer in people keeping fit and giving someone the right environment to do that is important. I'm not a professional athlete any more, I'm always busy and life sometimes gets in the way of staying fit and active. "However I still try my best, whether that's visiting a gym or going for a run. Having places like the M Club is fantastic."
The new centre will complement the M Club Spa and Fitness club in Festival Heights, which has 2,100 members.
WaterWorld owner Mo took over the club, formerly Esporta, when it too shut down unexpectedly leaving its members in the lurch. A total of 75 staff are employed between the two venues, along with 40 freelance class instructors.
He said: "We're delighted to have such a high-profile sporting figure like Steve coming along to help us spread the word about our new club.
"We've already attracted more than 1,500 members and are on target to hit 5,000 in year one."
Jackie Barnes, Stoke-on-Trent City Council member for Trent Vale and Springfields, is a member of the club.
She said: "As far as I'm concerned, Mo is my hero for reopening this gym. It's an asset for the community."
Member Polly Christie, aged 81, of Newcastle, swims six times a week covering 50 lengths at a time, except for on a Sunday when she swims a mile – 64 lengths of the pool.
She said when Total Fitness closed she was forced to travel to Crewe for her swims.
She said: "Swimming is my way of keeping fit. I'm glad that M Club has opened here. I just hope it continues to flourish."

“bb1996...the Councillor has been contacted directly (not that it's any business of yours of course). I can be sarcastic if I wish (freedom of speech!)”

“Can say am happy Mo has opened the gym, my son got his first job just turned 16 at Waterworld over two years later he now has a full time contract at the new Gym whilst attending university. I am grateful he has a job that gives hi. The freedom to attend his uni course in Sports development and has meant that he is not one of the unr 25s with no future and no prospects. Hopefully he will carry on working at the gym for the foreseeable future.”

“Fair-comment, instead of slating the councillor on the internet why don't you just ring the councillor and discuss this matter with her, if its that big an issue why don't you contact the councillor. And it is hardly a "fair comment" when you are using sarcasm against a councillor you most likely haven't even spoke to.”

SO Councillor...are you going to do something about the excessively bright signs that are a road safety risk?? I won't hold my breath as you're clearly such a big fan of the club (conflict of interests anyone?)”

“Well done to Mo, he has done a fantastic job with m club in Trent vale. It is definitely worth the money. The facilities available are always maintained and any concerns have always been sorted out promptly. As with anything there is always going to be moans and groans so you can't please everybody there's always going to be that picky one”

“Hey MO, how about doing something about the white backlit signs/screens at the front of the property?? They are RIDICULOUSLY bright, and a distraction to drivers (they are so bright that they actually illuminate the A34!!). They will be reported to the authorities because they are a serious risk to road safety. Your eyes get drawn to them because of the brightness, then when you look away you can't see properly!”

“I can remember when Mo said that he would make this gym 'affordable ' for the people of S-o-T. It seems that he got his words mixed up.”
