A fans’ group which dresses up in Star Wars costumes helped promote a special screening of The Phantom Menace.

The Mint Imperials were at the Vue cinema, Newcastle, dressed as characters such as Boba Fett, centre, and stormtroopers yesterday.

The group posed for pictures with members of the public ahead of today’s first screening of the Star Wars saga’s first chapter in 3D at 12.30am.

The Phantom Menace – starring Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson – is the first of the six films to be re-released in 3D.

A Vue spokesman said: “There’s no denying that seeing Star Wars on the big screen is an event not to be missed.”

“Shouldn't they be clone troopers if they are promoting the Phantom Menace? Although that would be way less cool.”
