MOTORISTS are being encouraged to avoid using the road network around Weston Park this weekend as the V Festival gets underway.

Around 90,000 music fans are expected at Weston Park, Stafford. Oasis and The Killers are the headliners for the festival, which will be celebrating its 14th year. Also performing will be Ladyhawke, the Lightning Seeds and Alphabeat.

But the influx of music fans will lead to lengthy tailbacks along the A5, A449, A41 and the M6 and M54 motorways.

Live performances will only be staged on Saturday and Sunday but delays and congestion are also expected on Friday and Monday.

Highways bosses at Staffordshire County Council predict that the worst times for traffic jams will be on the Friday and Monday mornings.

All tickets have sold out other than weekend camping tickets with coach travel. To find out more about the festival log on to www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/vfestival
