A WASTE site has been criticised for being muddy by councillors who granted it planning permission to store and recycle demolition rubble.

The former Berrisford Transport Yard in Longbridge Hayes Industrial Estate, Chemical Lane, Middleport, is sited between the A500 and the railway line.

There are 10 skips on site and stockpiles of waste will be gathered and sorted before being sold or sent to landfill.

Members of the Staffordshire County Council planning committee granted the retrospective application with a temporary three-year approval to test whether the site is operated properly.

Councillor Henry Butter said: "I've been to a number of recycle sites like this and this the most untidy one I've seen.

"There is mud everywhere. It is well sited right on the A500, but I am disappointed in the state of the site."

The total maximum throughput of the site will be 55,000 tons per annum.
