Chinese New Year celebrations transform city into riot of colour and noise
HAPPY NEW YEAR: The city went Chinese crackers at the weekend as it was transformed into a riot of colour and noise.
Celebrations for Chinese New Year ranged from a firework display to vibrant dancing.
They were led by three Chinese community groups which joined forces to mark the Year of the Tiger Potteries-style.
Traditional dragon and lion displays were among the highlights and guests also enjoyed Cantonese opera and martial arts exhibitions.
Visitors were also invited to sample Chinese food and watch children performing songs and dances.
Chris Guest and Grega Greaves co-ordinated construction of a 15ft (5m) tall Chinese dragon called Oscar made by children at Wolstanton High School.
Mr Guest, from Creative Arts North Staffs, said: "People on the streets loved it and took turns being able to move him about to celebrate the new year."
