TUDOR TUTOR: A retiring headteacher was shocked to be greeted by more than 360 children and staff in Tudor costumes when he arrived at work yesterday.

This was the first surprise for headteacher Peter Thorpe who has spent 21 years at St Teresa's Primary School in Trent Vale.

Deputy headteacher Gillian Rouse said: "Peter loves history and this year is the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII's ascent to the throne so a Tudor day seemed the best way to celebrate." As part of the day, pupils were treated to a falconry display and a Tudor banquet.
