FOUR trees have been cut down after requests from residents.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council sent workers out to Hayling Place, Longton, yesterday.

Denise Grant, head of neighbourhood services, said: "We had requests from residents to cut the trees down due to their large canopies. There was also an issue of the amount of leaves and berries the trees were shedding.

"We asked all the residents whose properties were affected by the trees and the majority wanted them removed.

"We will be looking at planting different kinds of trees that will not cause similar problems in more appropriate areas of the street."

However one Hayling Place resident, Kate Box, was not happy with the work.

She said: "The trees were perfectly fine, it has really annoyed me."
