Train hits person near Stoke (update)

• Services resume after person is hit by train near Stoke-on-Trent station

PASSENGERS face rush-hour delays this evening after a person was hit by a train.

The accident happened shortly after 4pm just south of Stoke rail station.

Emergency services have attended the scene and trains through the stretch of track are being diverted.

The extent of the victim's injuries have not been released.

Virgin Trains has ordered replacement coaches for customers travelling between Stoke and Stafford with delays expected to stretch into the evening.
