Traffic fears over housing scheme
PLANS to knock down an abandoned pub and build 14 houses have sparked concerns over increased traffic, safety and design.
An application has been submitted to knock down the Travellers Rest, Ashbourne Road, Cheadle, and create seven three-bedroom houses, three two-bedroom flats and four one-bedroom flats.
Forsbrook-based Stubbrook Developments saw off competition from four other bidders to purchase the pub, known locally as The Ropewalk, in March last year.
Councillor Peter Elkin, of Cheadle Town Council, said: "The road is so busy already and the design looks like a row of terrace housing. People are concerned."
But Councillor Barrie Mycock said: "This was a popular pub for many years with no problems. We cannot seriously be worried about traffic."
