ESSENTIAL work to repair roads, replace grids and manhole covers is expected to cause traffic chaos.

Improvements are being carried out in High Street, Bank Street and Chapel Street, in Cheadle.

The work starts on Monday after Staffordshire County Councillor for Cheadle, and cabinet member for highways Mike Maryon identified the work as a priority for the town.

Work will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption.

Highways officers will be on site next week to liaise with business owners about the repairs programme.

Mr Maryon said: "I am really pleased this patching work to the road surfaces can begin next week, it is something I have told our highways team is a priority.

"We have made sure the work will be taking place at night so disruption will be kept to a minimum.

"It is going to cause problems, but it is a matter of gritting our teeth and getting on with it.

"We would ask everyone to be patient while the work is carried out as the results will be worth it."

Next week, work will be carried out in High Street. The junction of Cross Street and Bank Street will also be resurfaced. High Street and Cross Street will be closed overnight when work takes place.

From Monday, September 20, until Friday, September 24, resurfacing will be carried out in Bank Street. Again, the road will be closed overnight.

From Monday, September 27, to Friday, October 1, work will take place in Chapel Street. Work will take place overnight. Traffic lights will be used.
