Town roads can't cope
BY-PASSES have been looked at for Cheadle since the 1930s when the population of the town was about 5,000 and very few homes had a car. Housing has increased continually since then, with a population increase of at least five-fold, plus almost every household has at least one car.
The roads in Cheadle are still the same as they were in the 1930s, with all the later developed estates tapping into this inadequate road layout. How the county council can say there is no need for further road improvements in Cheadle just beggars belief.
Why do we need more houses in Cheadle, which will have to be built on green fields?
Cheadle can't cope with today's traffic, let alone more.
Too much land has already been lost around Cheadle. Stoke-on-Trent has so much brownfield land. Building homes near workplaces makes more environmental sense.
Why aren't our councillors pushing this to Government rather than just accepting their figures without question?
