IF YOU'RE a fan of Gilbert And Sullivan, Buxton is the place to be this weekend.

Celebrating the 15th annual Gilbert And Sullivan Festival, which runs at venues throughout the spa town until next Saturday, tonight and tomorrow sees The Gilbert And Sullivan Opera Company perform The Gondoliers, while Charles Court Opera will present the Pirates of Penzance on Sunday.

Evening performances of both productions, which can be seen at the Opera House, start at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee of The Gondoliers at 2.30pm. For more information about the week's events, call the box office on 0845 1272190 or visit www.thisisthesentinel.co.uk/class

Staying a little closer to home, the Longslade Consort will be performing its Music In The Moorlands concert at St John's Church, Wetley Rocks, tomorrow night at 7.30pm. In the penultimate performance of the Nantwich Summer Lunchtime Concert Series, the Manchester Camerata Brass Ensemble will be performing at St Mary's Church on Thursday afternoon, before the Nantwich Singers conclude this year's offerings on Thursday, August 28. Presenting an interesting hour of music and chat, the popular brass quintet will perform a diverse programme, which will enable each player to highlight their instrument's capabilities as well as talk about them in more detail.

Both concerts start at 12.30pm and are free to attend.

A little later in the month, the Victoria Hall's consultant organist and organ prom director, Michael Rhodes, will be presenting a concert at the venue on Saturday, August 30. Part of the lunchtime organ prom series, this performance will include a programme drawn for audience requests, as well as a guided video tour of the inside of this world-class instrument.
